Gmail turns 1 today. To celebrate one-year birthday, Google is doubling the capacity of each account giving everyone one more gigabyte. They also plan to continue growing the storage beyond 2GBs. Google will add a yet-to-be-determined amount of extra storage daily, with no plans to stop.

"Our goal is to make sure storage is no longer an issue for Web mail users," said Marissa Mayer, Google's director of consumer Web products.

Anyway, Gmail will remain in a beta, or public test phase, for now.

At the same time, Google is testing phishing protection. When a Gmail user opens a suspected phishing message, the software displays a large red dialog box stating: "Warning: This message may not be from whom it claims to be. Beware of following any links in it or of providing the sender with any personal information."

Just last week, Yahoo said it would offer 1 Gb of storage to users of its free email service, four times more than it had previously offered.

There you go Google. You have made your users s......o happy with your new products.

We particularly enjoyed your GULP beverages.

Is it limited edition ? It's not in Beta testing is it? It seemed perfect to us.

Is it possible to be Tester for GULP?

We would really like to be kept informed about new flavors and please let us know its nationwide launch.

Thanks Google for your brain stimulating products

This is way too cool.... gone are the days of the 2 MB storage space from Hotmail... were a single mail could have your account blocked !

With Google raising the bar to 2 GB.... will the others follow ? As consumers we sure are happy with the freebees !

If anyone wants an account with Gmail, go to http://www.gmail.com/accounts

There you can sign up with no invites. This site is still not majorly linked but it is functional.

Have fun,
Bob.

[Admin's note: I'm afraid you will get a Google account there which is different from Gmail account. At least I'm redirected to Google accounts from that page, so be careful.]

I think this is a joking one for GMAIL users they will not really increase the level ub to the 2 geigabites bekaouwiz it is very harsh condition for GMAIL server to handdle sudden increase in data and databyte storage within entire system such as hotmail and yahoo too for others sometime examples. It GMAIL strategy only to increase user too sign ub and receive for more GMAIL and account to add junk mail into inbox sometimes from spamming and spam handling situation. This is GMAIL joke most likely for the GMAIL user to shame i thinkn for them to do this and saddend.
