1. log on as anonymous member and wait (like, patience is a virtue) - the poser/nutter/idiot will often not post if he's aware of a sentient presence, thus is led into a false sense of security.

I like to beat them severely about the head and shoulders with the "Cudgel of Truth" or similar blunt instrument. Or use the "Sword of Scorn" to chop their logic into little bitty pieces. Or shove the "Lance of Logic" into places they will not enjoy. Or roast them on the "Rotisserie of Reasoned Rhetoric" until they are all crusty and brown.
Or there is always that old standby used against idiots since the days of the cavemen, I hit them with a big rock.

My favorite tactic is to say something controversial and wait for the troll to respond. Then, attack his response in a clear, consice manner. The idea is to expose the hypocrisy and lies of the troll in question, allowing future readers to make up their own minds. This is a bit conservative but very, very effective.
