I'm sorry if I have posted this out of place but just came upon this forum in a search to find out why a new fluorescent lamp won't shut off. The new lamp with an electronic ballast replaces one with the old type. We have Lightning Switches that control the fixture. It is a fluorescent ceiling fixture that could not be controlled by a regular wireless remote. We have the wired-in receiver type with three transmitters for convenience. Lightning Switches are piezo electric switches that don't use batteries for transmission of the signal. These all worked fine for the old fluorescent fixture, except when the microwave was running. Then we simply waited until the microwave quit and turned the lamp on or off. With this new lamp, it will reliably turn on (though we haven't tried it with microwave running) but usually won't turn off. Sometimes everything works fine, other times it stubbornly stays brightly shining until it finally decides to listen to the switch receiver. Once it waited a few minutes then shut off, sometimes toggling the switch does nothing, sometimes it works. Turning it on doesn't seem to be a problem, but turning it off is. We finally had to undo a wire to get it off tonight as we couldn't wait for it to make up its mind.

I hope I've given enough information for the situation to be understood without running on too much. We asked a friend who works in computer electronics about the problem and he said sometimes technologies don't play well together. I hope someone here can give a more definite answer. :-)

wire it normally and get a clapper.

The light might get a better signal if you don't stand in front of the switch. Maybe try poking the switch with a stick instead of a finger. My guess is the piezo thingy is getting tired so less signal and the new flourescent is a bit noisier than the old one so it doesn't pick up the 'turn off' command.

Thanks for your replies. I spoke with the switch company and they said it was likely interference, as some on here suggested. I've ordered what they call a System Extender to correct the sensitivity to interference.
