Dear Newton,

I suggested adding a "Report" Function to the feedback section on the Laissez Faire Libel Thread. Feel free to take up the cause. This said, anyone with half a clue ought to be paying attention not to the overall Feedback score, but to the ratio of positive/negative based upon unique IP addresses.

I... believe this forum would benefit from the ability to report abusive feedback in similar manner to the way one can report abusive posts. It seems like basic common sense to me. After all, are we not here to learn and to teach? At the very least, it seems to me that this should be a basic guiding principle that shapes all else.

Too funny.

newt, do you see CONSPIRACIES everywhere?

As to your warnings, you and I both got warnings for things which NOW the moderators obviously ignore.

Two of mine were also for comments in Feedback.

But by current standards they would be pretty tame.

Apparently the Moderators have decided to pretty much ignore feedback comments/pictures.

I've used that word countless times to describe people. I've also used "retard," "m0r0n," and "dumbass" and yet I've never been called out on it. (although I have had a few of my posts mysteriously disapear after too many uses of insulting words.)
Derek1148
There are no key words that result in a warning (other than perhaps profanity). I believe the primary issue is if the subject at whom the comments are directed complains.
"THEY"
But you CAN'T complain for feedback, only posts in threads... Besides, aren't we mostly adults here? Do we REALLY need to resort to calling names? I know some people beg for abuse, bug I will never understand why many here no longer act their age... Sorry that is mean sounding, but I am a little too well known for speaking my mind at times... wink.gif Which is what has brought most of my negs. For a great example, look in my feedback. There is a good example of idiotic and moronic behavior IMHO. I would expect that kind of behavior from my 13 year old, not an adult. Name calling and abuse just makes the person saying it (or posting a pic) look as dumb or dumber.

So I agree completely with Newton, we should be able to report abusive feedback. I have seen some feedback removed, so moderators apparently check some stuff....... but not enough. But also I think this forum needs to GROW UP. blink.gif Moderators should not have to check everything because many of the posters behave like they are in preschool.

I know, I know.... I just made a lot of enemies with that rant....... laugh.gif
BITE ME! biggrin.gif

While there is no "Report this Feedback" button in the Feedback section, you can simply hit the "report this post" on any post and in the message block that opens simply point the moderators to your offending feedback.

I agree with you, that the forum should grow up.

I'm AMAZED about how much wasted energy is spent complaining about one anothers views as opposed to discussing the issues.

Seems people forget that the SIMPLE (and IMHO) only way to deal with someone who doesn't understand basic forum manners, is clearly nuts etc etc is to SIMPLY INGORE THEM.

Hi all!

At least there should be introduced a NEUTRAL FEEDBACK option that allows the 'target' of dubiously motivated/based feedback to answer the 'abusive' poster 'in kind' and explain their side of the matter IN CONTEXT where the 'offence' occurs.....mainly for the benefit of lookers on', hehehe.

Cheers all!

I say...eliminate the ability to leave any negatives on a person.
I don't believe there has been very much of benefit to come out of that ability.
Leaving positives is a boost to ones confidence on the other hand, so that bit should positively stay!
This way if you wanted to say something nice on a persons behalf, that would be allowed and otherwise, like in the old adage...If you can't think of anything nice to say, don't say anything...you...bite your tongue...keep it to yourself and what not.
Growing up is very hard to do sometimes and when one is goaded it is so easy to begin to fight back. Once a system is put in place that eliminates some of the bullying, I suppose it will be hard to withdraw that system.
But great things happen with innovation and, my suggestion stands, that the ability to add salt to the wounds already (usually) administered in the threads...is rather ridiculous.
One should think before adding negatives...would I say this if I were face to face with this person at a social gathering. Or would I say this (pin this label) to my neighbor if we were arguing, knowing they would be around for perhaps a very long time...I don't know...people seem to get caught up in the drama, way too much.
Maybe thats why so many seem to have left this forum altogether.
I have missed a bunch of people who appear to have taken their excellent minds elsewhere.
'Tis a downright bloody shame!

Confused2
The site would be less attractive to trolls if they couldn't give negative feedback
NeoDevin
If you could only leave positives, then noone would look at feedback score, as everyone would have 100%. And then people would just start leaving insults and rude comments as positives.

GeneSplicer: Coincidentally, I just finished reading about the "Mohammed bear" incident for the first time right before I read your post. I'll be the first person to agree that this type of behavior/reaction definitely falls into the category of fanaticism. Knowing you to be familiar with the variations on the so-called "Jesus fish" that adorns the back of many vehicles, I saw a new one this morning as I was pulling into the Mall parking lot. Inside of the fish, it said: "N Chips". ohmy.gif That's all I've got time for right now...I've got to go and slash that guy's tires. smile.gif

Despite believing in God (and yes, Jesus' teachings, to a certain extent) I wholeheartedly subscribe to the philosophy that nothing is sacred. That being said, I absolutely love those little fish with feet that say "Darwin" inside biggrin.gif

To get back on topic however, I kinda like the feedback system the way it is. It allows for one's feedback scores to serve as a kind of predictions market: If a hundred people leave you feedback, and 90% of it is positive, it's a good bet that you don't act in an immature manner or talk about subjects you know nothing about. I like that the system differentiates between unique and repeat feedbacks too, it helps keep in check the ability of one person to ruin your score by consistantly giving you negative feedback.

Hehehe. Good one, tikay!

BTW, does that imply 'Jesus' is part of the PREDATOR-PREY 'evolutionary pressure' relationship? Wow, who would have guessed that even Christians subscribe to that 'unspeakable' theory, heh! hehehe.

At least they should remove the ability to leave multiple feedback. What is the use of allowing multiple feedback from the same person?

If someone has changed their mind regarding a member, they should only be allowed to remove their previous feedback and provide a new feedback. So at any given time there should be only 1 feedback allowed per person.

This would prevent any one person from having more than their fair share of the positive feedback percentage.

Howdy! Long time~

Well I doubt very much that the Christian camp made that pin....but I have always dispised the missionary position....um let me re-phrase that. I have always thought that Christians should be more self-taught and less of an out reach program. ahem....

They shouldn't be going into the jungles and isles with their systems...They should learn from others and take that home to thier religion, to sew it in...so to speak.

Hi inQZtive!

If you read my recent post history page, it will explain my prolonged absence due to illness that affected my optics.

I'm only just getting over the worst effects of partial blindness and headaches/discomfort (especially during prolonged computer screen and reading/writing requiring 'deep/prolonged' concentration).

I've been catching up as best I can and contributed to various topics here and there while 'recuperating' (I can't help it! hehehe).

Don't worry....if my recovery continues as it is (fingers crossed! hehehe), it will be only a matter of a few weeks before I again seriously resume TOE project duties and input the much delayed necessaries for progressing the Q & A stage-II.

Sorry to keep you and everyone 'hanging' all this time....but unfortunately the 'human condition' I suffer with the rest of humanity has a habit of getting in the way of the best-laid plans of mere mortals like ME! hehehe.

Oh, for your and other 'newbies' info:.....I ONLY moderate in the TOE/Cosmology special project SUB-forum section....but NOT at all in the MAIN-forum sections. That is because I initiated the project and the Physorg admin graciously allowed me to keep an eye on the behaviour/threads therein so as to help avoid the TOE sub-forum project being 'swamped' by the sort of 'vitriol' and multiplicity of 'duplicating' threads that come and go in the MAIN-forum sections...where I have NO 'moderator' status (NOR do I want it there, thanks! hehehe.).

Thanks for your interest, mate!

Cheers and see y'all soon in the TOE threads, inQZtive, all!

I too have become a hermit of sorts. I noticed somewhere along the line, that less people can bother you at home, if they don't have any clue where you live.
Also that I am a crotchety person trying to get out of my "oh so nice" and "friendly as all get out" pre-packaging. I am learning to get out of my box. That does not mean I am better...just more genuine I hope.

Being a loner is not a bad thing, so long as you keep yourself stimulated and don't let your brain stymie.

I suppose you had surgery...was it cataracts ? My mom has been diagnosed with one now, no more night driving (she could not drive good during daylight anyhow) until she gets surgery.

Sorry to hear about your mom's night vision problem. I recently saw something about cataract correction (lens replacement?) now involve minuscule-incision (ONE millimeter!) operating techniques using 'folded up' flexible lens material that 'unfolds' once inserted through the tiny incision. Hardly invasive at all, apparently....and hardly any 'recovery period' involved, either! Good news for your mom if so (I hope so!). Good luck to tikay's Mom!

My vision setback was an allergic inflammatory reaction in my nervous system....especially in my optic nerves. Ouch! Better now....lots! hehehe.

I have to be 'secluded' to avoid a myriad of 'allergy triggers' ranging from food, city life (smog/chemicals etc), food/virus protein allergens etc etc etc. Sort of allergic to the 21st century, really! hehehe.

But don't lose touch with family and friends (ain't internet/telecommunications great!). And my continuing sci-tech projects in a couple of BIG areas/problems keeps me occupied both in body and mind. So no dearth of 'stimulation for ME. And of course, there's the TOE special project sub-forum to take up any of my time/effort I can spare from my other non-cyberspace work, heh!

And I've always been a 'softie'....perhaps my chronic illness since childhood, and my practically life-long involvement in 'problem solving' for family, friends and employers in diverse areas has something to do with my highly 'tuned' 'empathy' and 'sympathy' memes/attitudes, hehehe.

You and many others here seem to have also have a more highly evolved empathy/sympathy meme/attitude. Good to see I'm not 'alone' in THAT, hehehe!

Cheers tikay, all!

My tenth year was a river of tears.

Plagued by depression for most of my life...the neuro-transmitters are connecting thanks to the new drugs for binding the un-bound. Some would say I am still a softie but...mostly I have been abused so much I can just relate to how that feeeeels.
Honestly i don't care what people think of me now, years of therapy and psych doctor friends...have helped me gain strength.

Shoot, I told everyone when I lost my mind at the beginning of this year. It came right back, good as ever!

I would add to your TOE thread if i were smarter dear! Maybe I will go see what is going on there, last I looked in i felt quite inadequate!

The TOE is 'quiet' at the moment. But it should soon liven up again when my eyes let me do some serious work for inputing to the stage-II Q & A TOE thread.

And as long as one can string two kind words together and say them to another.....and MEAN what they say, then NO-ONE is 'inadequate' in my book.

All else is learning opportunity/experience. Nothing more.

Maintain a balanced nutrition, exercise and realistic expectations of others, and you're bound to get ahead in the 'depression' game, tikay!

Cheers!
