As reported on CNN Network News, a family of four located in Pasadena California, have a micro garden or farm in their living area, in Pasadena.
They utilize a series of low flat growing trays, in which they raise vegetables, along with a type of housed-in design to their little home, where they make most of what they need, including fuel and pure recycled water.

The problems with this little family operation is, that you must be devoted to the idea of culturing your food and what you need, most of the time.

They are not what one would refer to as hunter gathers.

The problem with enforcing this type of living ethos, is that the greater relationship to fellow man, is not achieved within associations.
In other words, this type of living arrangement becomes sacrosanct and the people living in the villa, might never expand to meet others, who would want to trade of did business.

This is one of the main primary reasons, why little get away communes can fail, because social divestation, is one of the basis points, for exclusion from the rest of society.

However’ the idea is good, on the economy principle alone. Other factors, if walking robots, were made much more affordable for the everyday person, could robots, be put to work, as assisting cultures, in a little villa-like do-it-you self growing environment.
*Note, at one time personal homebased computers, were thought impossable to fashion.

*Notes: Other than the manned by people growing and refining operation, that these shown people are involved in, it would also be possible to automate some of these processes, to be done on a computer timer to mechanical actuation series of servos.

The why to this logic, is that some people, are simply not all arboreal, or possess a green thumb to either grow or want to tend to growing plants and such.

*This is the idea of the little mini self sustained villa, to where a number of payers into the physical plant, could be employed, either by active hands on members, or pay into by either current barter of trade of some sort, into that community?\

Walking robots, would probably be made much more simply than they are now, by most people with either mechanical or electrical aptitudes.

There does not seem to be a concerning in a grass roots movement group, is fashioning such robots.
This might be due to the conception of their needed relevancies, or the awareness that once people start building personal robots, that the task of constructing them, might become less complex
