Wouldn´t be a bad move for apple, what they really sell are computers. Using windows is just a way of making macs more appealing to the pc using masses.

focus on porting the OS completely to any and all Intel / AMD / IBM PC's.
And what for? The average PC user WONT switch to mac os, we´re talking about nearly brainless apes here. However they BUY new hardware, so yea using windows makes a lot of sense.

I do like Apple's designs quite a lot, especially for the PC's they made
See? Macs are already appealing, but they just dont have the proper OS to convince PC users to get one.

why does it have to be one or the other... when it could be both. Of course buying a Mac hardware would be much more appealing if you could run dual operating systems on it. I'm sure Apple has this in mind. It doesn't mean they have to/ or will switch to Windows. I rather highly doubt it. Think about it, if you could sell a machine that people can use for either OS, why would you have to switch? I don't think even Bill Gates wants that to happen. Steve certainly wouldn't.

You apple flowers need a few clues. The contest was lost IN THE 1980's!!!! Apple blew a good thing by being greedy about locking customers into proprietary hardware. No tears for them here.

That is EXACTLY what most mac users want. OS X on other platforms = More customizability.
Unfortunately

, Apple seems to be one step ahead. Would be hackers of Mac OS X found this
poem warning them away.
So I don't think Apple wants their OS on other systems. However, they might be more inclined to allows Windows to run on the new chips. (Wouldn't hurt G5 sales

)

Not correct, More platforms means more instability and stability is more important to me then being able to customize it to no end! The Mac is more then flexible enough for 95% of the computing population.
The reason IMHO that a Mac is a better PC is that the OS and hardware are developed as a single unit. Some call this a monopoly, I call it good business as it creates an appliance that is much easier to program for and maintain, which means stability. The same programmers that do the OS have intimate knowledge of the hardware design and know what to expect. This is not the case with Wintel PC's. MS has to develop the OS to accept the absolute largest set of hardware, while this is great for flexibility, the cost is great, in that it will never be as stable a platform across all hardware/vendor possibilities.
Windows is itself a hazard as the resent shake up in the windows section of MS has shown. They have been working on Vista for more then
five bloody years and look at the problems they are
stilll having. My God what are they doing in there?. Apple on the other hand, has been updating OS-X all along, and has most all the functionality that's in Vista, yet Apple has not had the difficulty implementing and releasing these features. Why? because windows is too complicated, everything is in one giant clump the OS the UI... MS even admitted this, thats one of their main augments to not releasing a version of windows sans the media player, because it intertwined into everything else! This is just crappy programming. The ironic thing is that Apple considers itself a hardware company and MS is a software complany and Apple is a better software company then MS (IMO).
Wintels will never be as stable as a Mac until the OS and hardware are treated as a single unit!

Well, I imagine the OS X programmers are hard at work to create an intel native OS for the next generation. As you say, vista seems to have SEVERAL gears in the spokes... And I love how the main "upgrades" they are implementing are already functioning very well in OS X.
And yes, what a computer needs to be is a fusion of hardware and software. I'm not sure I like the cobbled together idea. Unless it were to be implemented much more efficiently.
