I read an article in the new scientist in the year 2002 that some American scientists were contemplating starting a black hole sine they new how to do it.
They were however unsure how to stop it. They were having meetings to decide weather to start the exp. Obviously this exp has still not yet been done unless they were very very sure they new how to stop it.
Do you have any idea on how to start a black hole? Don't say exactly how since this might be a bit dangerous Dr Strangelove style.
You planning on making one?

got 3 mate i regularly meet up with the dimensional lizard people for tea and afternoon snacks.
don't worry I'm keeping them under control using mystic megs powers of thought.
is there anyone one that wants to talk about science on this forum?

This 'issue' is being discussed in other threads, such as the one on 'LHC Danger Revisited'. It's a discussion about how likely black hole production at the accelerator being built at CERN will be and if they are produced, how much danger do they possess, such as their stability.
I suggest reading some of that thread and the ones related to it. You'll see I've posted a lot in them. I'm of the view that they will not be any real danger, even if they are stable. The people who say they will be a danger have to rely on ignoring all physics and simply inventing scenarios which contradict observed behaviour in quantum and classical systems.

Thank you alphanumeric this is very interesting indeed.

I have read a little about the LHC danger and quite frankly have always pondered what has started other black holes in the universe? Dead stars or arrogant scientists?
since the universe is infinite then it would have to be both. Since all things are possible in an infinite universe. Monkeys and type-writers so to speak.
I'm scared are you??

Here we go again

If the probability of the LHC creating a black hole is 0.0000001% then a good analogy would be like getting dealt a playing card 1 per day (say one exp per day) using a pack of cards with 1000000 cards.
Then surly as each day is over the probability gets a little worse.
it would of course take say 5-900 years to create a black hole by mistake then so lets hope that at least we make it past 2012.
Now luck is a funny thing indeed and In my life i have been very very lucky but also very very unlucky. In ways that would seam paradoxical.
to be honest if someone let me start the machine i would place bets that not only would i create a black hole but would also be so spawny that i would then be able to stop it.
Now in this web site is fact not fiction! but describes a paradox that could only occur if i am in fact osama bin ladin or that they (CIA-MI5) had fore knowledge.

You have not taken into account how dangerous a black hole made at CERN would be. Even if one were created, every model which says it will happen says it will evaporate before it travels even an inch.
Even if they don't evaporate, it would take such a tiny black hole billions of years (more like trillions of trillions of years!) to destroy the Earth. The Sun will explode long before that.

wow i feel better now but a black hole will get bigger exponentially but if the black hole is the size of an angstrom then i feel better.
Please comment on my post in the general science forum on mind reading technology since no scientist will touch it with a barge poll please tell me why?

'Cause you never accept that you're wrong, so it's impossible to give you anything but good comments to your posts, you idiot

I am not a scientist, but I like to imagine.
I think creating a black hole is as easy as building a pyramid.
run at least 4 beams of continuous accelerating electrons to their speed limits under extremely low temperature. arrange the 4 rings of electrons in such positions that they form a pyramid.
release all electron beams at the same time and let them to collide from different angles simultaneously and penetrate the surfaces against each other and forming a virtual space at nearly absolute 0 degree temperature. At the time the fragments of the electrons and the remaining space rebound from the surfaces of the virtual space and forming an extreme matter and an extreme anti-matter which both of them are traveling in an extreme speed that exceed the speed of bonding matters but in opposite directions. A black whole may appear which keep drawing matters and space into the tunnel from both ends of the tunnel which is formed by the path of rebound until they hit another extreme matter/ extreme anti-matter which is assumed to be existed.

The only black holes we can potentially make would have such a small mass that they would evaporate in a fraction of a second. They simply would not have enough mass to cause enough gravity to be even close to being a problem. If Haawkings theory on evaporation is correct, then we would need to create a black hole with a mass about the same as the moon to get ourselves into trouble. Anything smaller than that will evaporate out of existance - if it is much smaller, ie like a few micrograms, then it would evaporate very quickly indeed.
