Seriously though, will they have ceremony for pushing the button? It might be a good photo op for some politician or other official. Stuff like that can't hurt.
Can you imagine what the world would make of that photo if the LHC did produce a black hole which somehow (I dunno how) killed off 99% of the population and set us back to the dark ages?
It'd be captioned "The next time you do something incredibly stupid, just remember: At least you're not this guy."
Maybe we should beem it into space, with "Don't try this one at home folks"

I can hardly wait! In time they may confirm or disprove a lot of theories that are out. Personally, I hope they confirm those 10 or 11 dimensions.
On a lighter note, here is a rap tune that someone did about the collider. No kidding, the lyrics are all physics:

It's just dawned on me that the reason we have not discovered intelligent life, is that they all built their LHC's and completed the experiment.

I think you may be right.
Maybe that's why they're abducting humans. So we can show them what went wrong with their LHCs.

I heard France and Switzerland just vanished into a black hole. Shortly after they fired up the LHC. Oh wait, that was just the
money that they had invested in the US mortgage debacle!
