The researchers at KU (University of Kansas) have come up with cosmic explanation for 62 million year bio diversity cycle.

"At least two of the Earth's great mass extinctions-the Permian extinction 250 million years ago and the Ordovician extinction about 450 million years ago-correspond with peaks of this cycle, which can't be explained by evolutionary theory."

The team at KU says stars are not fixed in space. Moving through our galaxy the Sun moves towards and away the Milky Way’s center as well as up and down on the galactic plain.

"One complete up-and-down cycle takes 64 million years- suspiciously similar to Earth's biodiversity cycle.”

I want to know is the sufficient amount of evidence towards this hypothesis good enough or is the 64 million year cycle just a coincidence?

Is there any other studies going on with regards to this phenomena?
