I had an argument with someone last night who was claiming that the recent China earthquake was part of a conspiracy to divert foreign attention away from the Tibet issue affecting the Olympic games.

He said they used underground nukes used to cause an earthquake to wipe out their own city.

Complete bollocks in my opinion. These conspircy idiots have no morals and will believe any wild theory.

Underground nukes, mine collapses, etc. have distinctive seismic patterns. Had there been underground nukes we would know from the thousands of seismometers girdling the planet.

I was thinking about starting a thread about the earthquake in China until I saw this one. For many years I have been saying that (IMHO) the 3 rivers dam would cause many earthquakes some bigger than ever felt in that area due to the water weight that would be placed on the area. Years ago I did the PSI calculations on the bottom. ( I can't remember the result now ) When the Hover dam was fill there were several earthquakes, I think the strongest was a 4.6ish. Any thoughts on this.

I'm amazed people can be this idiotic.

In the opinion of some, the earthquake wasn't caused to divert attention form the Tibet issue, it was karmic retribution for it.

That is only half the story.

Her full message was something like "at first I thought it was Karma but then Buddist monks said that we should help the Chinese and then I realised that yes the Chinese do deserve our help."

The full message is longer, I heard it on the radio by a talk show host complaining about how things get distorted.

Just as some Chinese citizens are receiving bad karma for substandard construction practices, Sharon Stone by carelessly pissing off a billion Chinese is receiving hers. Still others may argue that Sharon Stone is being punished for not crossing her legs in Basic Instinct.

You know, I had heard a different story behind the China quake.

I happened upon some Youtube videos of cloud formations minutes before the earthquake, showing some cool circumhorizontal arcs. The videos are here and here.

The clouds are most likely the result of ionization occurring from some kind of electromagnetic disturbance generated by shifting magma or lithosphere prior to the quake. The ions attract dust and form condensation nuclei, a.k.a. cirrus clouds.

I saw at some conspiracy forum (no, not this one tongue.gif ) where people were claiming that HAARP was responsible for the earthquake, citing the clouds as proof - "The clouds in the first video resemble figure 8's... the shape of magnetic dipoles!!" etc. etc. So, I went and looked at the waterfall charts for HAARP, and noted that it wasn't used the day of the quake, nor has it been since. Interestingly, it was used for the first time in April on the 26th, and was used for hours daily up until the 11th of May, the day before the quake.

I'm not proposing any conclusions from this, just thought I'd lay the facts out there and hear some thoughts. Check the waterfall charts for yourselves, you can tell when HAARP was turned on by the solid line around the 2.8 Mhz range, with resonance sometimes induced in higher frequencies. Kewl.

This sounds like the most likely theory to me. The weight of gazilions of tons of water would definitely have some effect. I have heard of collosal mining operations in China, moving these huge amounts of rock, etc, around might also have some effect.

Probably not with this quake, but quakes will also be a major problem of disappearing glaciers due to global warming
paul h
The weight of that gazillions of tons of water would be just under 700 million tons sitting on a plate that never had to hold that much weight before.
N O M
700 million tons sounds nigh inexorable.

Is it my imagination or am I just pessimistic? It appears to me that with the spread and evolution of the internet the spread and expansion of these conspiracy theories and their supporters went hand in hand.

Did such expansion create more supporters for such CTs or did it simply reveal the portion of the population that would tend to believe and support such to begin with?

If it is your imagination, it seems to be spreading into my imagination.
If you look at CT post on different forums, it usually starts with with the same old sentence.
It sounds something like this:
(Someone I talked to said)
That is usually all it take to start a discussion on a CT.
Usually there is no person who made such a statement, however because of the interest of the topic other will help to build the CT up.

I am not saying Nom made his person up, but it always seems to be used as a start up for rumor or CT.

So are you saying that "Someone said that N O M made this up"? Sounds like a conspiracy to me ph34r.gif Maybe all conspiracy theories are part of a conspiracy to control the way we think ph34r.gif ph34r.gif

Actually, the person I argued with started by saying he had heard someone say the theory unsure.gif but he was convinced. Like I said earlier, some people will believe anything.

Give it up N O M. You have been exposed!

Despite al the time you spend arguing against conspiracy theory supporters, are you really just a “truther” at heart?

I find this interesting! I don't know what I actually think of it, but I wonder if somehow there could be a connection.

I wish the HAARP charts didn't all look the same to me, I don't know what I am looking for I guess.

But I wonder what all could explain this preceeding an earthquake.

Thanks for the ammunition! biggrin.gif

i don't think if HAARP was being used to cause an earthquake, that they publish the ACTUAL waterfall set on the web. they would pretend the thing was off, when really, it was beaming billions of watts into china.

no one but the staff at HAARP would know if they were faking waterfall sets.

in fact, it would be plain stupid for the military to publish all of their haarp activities truthfully, for anyone in the entire world to analyze.

there were fifty radiation sources of concern to the chinese, post quake. maybe it was a research facility that 'needed' to be taken out, and the radiation is not from a detonation, but from refining plants or disposal sites.

what is more ridiculous than conspiracy theory, is thinking YOU KNOW how things really are in the world. what's more ridiculous than conspiracy theory, is the idea that there are no conspiracies, anywhere, ever.

JFK told us about a monstrous conspiracy that was the biggest danger america had ever faced. he was a 'conspiracy theorist'.
then 'they' killed him a week later, and proceeded with the plan of fascist, totalitarian police-state.
'they' won. the conspiracy worked. everyone knows it was a conspiracy, and no one does anything, so, it seems they also managed to bread and circus the whole country into an apathetic mass of id pleasers.

luckily, NOM and his ilk can chuckle themselves to sleep with their comforting sense of smug, omnipotent superiority. keep those ids pumped, boys. nothing to see here, ...ever.

Trippy
Disgusting.

I'm genuinely disgusted that human beings are gullible enough to try and attribute a conspiracy theory to something as profound as a natural disaster on this scale.

I suppose that when the next earthquake hits NYC, or the central US, that will be a conspiracy as well.

The truely disgusting thing is, is that it doesn't take a genius to monitor HAARP without relying on the published web info, and the Chinese definitely have the technology.

So why haven't they retaliated? If it's really that simple to trigger an earthquake, why haven't they triggered the San Andreas fault?
