An easy to use tool for understanding is part of a basic hypothesis of evolution (simplest possible set of operations that apply to everything, together and apart): Things (any entity or process) randomly recombine toward maximum interrelatedness of everything in the interaction.

Debatable speculation, but it is handy. In any post or other information check out the terms and how they are used (Google and Wikipedia are easy help) and subjectively (quick and usually adequate) assess the proportion of interrelatedness of the terms used in the information. If there is little or no interrelatedness, there is a very high probability it is BS (or a very low probability it is a primitive idea).

Assessing the proportion of interrelatedness of information is also useful in spotting BS data. Cold fusion is a classic example.

(An unrelated factor, but also helpful in the sorting, is the profanity quotient is usually proportional to the BS content.)
