http://www.physorg.com/news109958486.html Hmm! It would be interesting to see what the actual Question was. Was it a suggestion that we"re causing it now? Or was the suggestion that it"s never happened until now. There"s lots of Sun readers that have never heard of it unless they see it after page 3.

Yes and there was a King that thought he could command the sea not to come in. ONE QUESTION HOW DID WE MANAGE TO MELT THE ICE ON MOUNT KILIMANJARO. WHERE THE MEAN TEMPERATURE IS -50 GOOD TRICK. I hope no one has a burn out over that one by really having to think for themselves. Talk about the sky is falling.

Hi, Paul. I know what you're saying. (No need to shout

) The point I was trying to make is that most people have no Interest in the "science" of a subject but only take notice of what they read in their personal paper. Depending on which paper they read, they will only accept what they are "guided" to think. Only an opinion

How can you seriously poll people on this and take the results seriously? They've been brainwashed by the liberal media for decades, and the vast majority of people are too lazy to read even a jr. high school level science book for themselves, so they wouldn't know the difference anyway.
I think I've met a handful of people in my life, other than college professors, who have actually read more than me on the subjects of science and mathematics, and I find it to be a shame. When I was in high school, I was one of the very, very few people who walked around with a book in my hand, whether it was a work of fiction, or a book on astronomy, physics, or math, or geology or paleontology, or whatever, I spent nearly all of my spare time reading.
But so many people don't read anything at all unless its required reading for their school or work. These people are ignorant and left at the mercy of global warming alarmists because they are un-informed of the basic sciences involved and un-informed of the actual historical facts. Most Americans have never heard of the Little Ice Age, and when I was in school, nobody bothered to stop and mention that volcanism caused New York harbor to freeze over in the "year without a summer". People are led by the leftist media to believe that climate change is a recent phenomenon caused by man, but this simply isn't true.
Man made climate change is a joke. Man is such a miniscule insect when it comes to the scale of global climate change that it does not even remotely matter. A super-volcano could errupt tomorrow and drop the world's mean temperature by 5, 10, or more degrees almost over night. Compared to that, man's contribution to climate change, if any, is insignificant and not even worth mentioning.

Just the Beeb showing it's bias again.Unfortunately a lot of people who don't look for facts or know better are swayed by propaganda. They come to believe the first thing they are told, especially by people in positions to push their point, and will not even look for alternatives.
If you tell a big enough lie often and loud enough it will become self perpetuating.
You can usually reverse exaggerations but not lies if people don't want to listen.
A lot of people don't believe in AGW but are afraid to admit it to someone who does because of the phrases "ever body believes","consensus","we all know",that precedes most political lies.It makes them think that they are in the minority and are afraid of "coming out".
You have also got the "believers" who have come to doubt but afraid to admit it.

Quantum you are the 1 of 10.
You don't happen to be Rush Limbaugh?
People as a "Minuscule Insect" - Let's change it to virus, say the flu
How could something so small have an impact?
Everything has an impact on reality.
Sure super volcanoes happen and we will most likely need oil then when it will be one of the only energy sources that can sustain our overpopulated species in a decade of darkness. A lot of Insects... Whoops I meant people won't survive (The Insects will). Our constant dependence and inefficient use of oil as an energy source is being directly put into the atmosphere as the byproduct of heat and gasses.
Society may drive us in our short existence but reality will keep us in check.
Nothing but a bunch of monkeys are we. Thinking ahead is the next step in our evolutionary process.

Criticizing the "liberal" media. "Elitist" bunch, are they? This from a bunch of undereducated know-it-alls who think they know everything and climatoligists are a stupid bunch who can't add 2 and 2. It's laughable.

I'm with Zim on this one. This science news site is the only thing I can bear to gather information from anymore, and even now there's notable breeches in the "scientific" material. All the publishings on Apple and Microsoft are a prime example... and I also seriously question the objectivity of some acclaimed studies, due to their funding, background, and obvious agendas in their conclusions.
Just always read between the lines

As for the media sources the VAST majority of citizens get their information (and resulting opinions) from... I'll leave that one to Mark Twain -
"If you don't watch the news, you're UNinformed. If you do, you're MISinformed."

The problem would seem to be. "how do you get people to think and research, for themselves?" It's O.K. for me, I'm a child of the '60's and don't believe anything officialdom of any ilk says unless I've gone into it, a bit, myself.
How do you get people to check things out for themselves? It's strange. Everybody I know accepts that Politicians are "economical with the truth" and yet they don't treat all statements with the sceptisism that they should, if they really believe that.
Laziness? Or an inability of "true" scientists to be able to make the subject as fascinating to everyone as it is to us?

It is unfortunate that it takes such drama in gas emissions for a given event (The Super-volcano), keep in mind the Earth population and it's increasing rate and associated effects such as de-forestation.
I think man caused activity (anthropogenic) exists in soot/dust effects in Glacial melt in non polar locations i.e. Kilimanjaro

I think improved education will help in thinking ahead better (We have already evolved our brains and
should work on using it better)

HI,Unregistered(why Unregistered?, if you enjoy talking about the subject, why not register? I'm only a layman but I still stick a username up) So how do you alter the education system to enable people to question the "given" facts? You've said the problem is "educating" so how do we change the system?

No answer. So I guess you don't have an answer. Very easy to whinge and moan, not so easy to provide an answer. It's no use castigating the rest of the Human Race because they don't think like us. How do we get the Bxxxxxs to look into things?
