I'm running through these Arc Length questions and able to understand a lot of them, but there is one that is algebraically confusing.
In the course of the problem, we see the formula set up as:
s = int(sqrt(1+(1/2*x^2 + (1/(2x^2)))^2))dx
Somewhere down the course of the problem, the positive one preceding the first x term diappears:
int( 1/2*x^2 + (1/(2x^2)))dx
I have no idea how they managed to get rid of that 1 at the onset. I can send an image of the problem to anyone who provides me with a method to send an .png file.
