The remains of two previously unknown flying reptile species have been unearthed in China. Feilongus youngi and Nurhachius ignaciobritoi as they are known flew above China 120 million years ago. Both species have been classified under the family pterosaurs. These remains were found in northwestern China's Liaoning region. Several fossils of bird-like dinosaurs have been previously uncovered in Liaoning.
Pterosaurs were relatives of dinosaurs. They mastered the skies for millions of years before birds. Pterosaurs included the sparrow-sized Pterodactyls and Quetzalcoatlus. The latter remains the largest flying creature of all time. Its gigantic wings stretched out measuring 40-feet. While some pterosaurs flew by flapping their wings against their bodies, others used their wings to glide like kites.
