Why do we constantly look for aliens. Why do we want to find them. If we find them there is a 50 percent chance that they kill us. I don't like those odds and i have enough earth friends

I would say that if we contact an technologically advanced intelligent alien species, one that has the space travel capacity to come to Earth; then it is likely that they will be peaceful. The logic being that any civilization that has advanced to the point of traveling between galaxies will have learned to live in peace. Besides, the general cause of wars is over material things, a civilization that technologically advanced would likely not be hurting for material resources. Any civilization we contacted that was roughly at our level in technological sophistication, would not be capable of doing anything more than communicating with us. I suppose we could exchange war-like threats with them.

If you look at the history of colonisation, it has in many places been a disaster. Peoples have had their way of life ruined and have turned to alcohol as their civilisations fell apart. We have also given them diseases and ruined their belief systems, etc.

Imagine an advanced alien race coming to Earth with technology which within a month could make over 95% of the world's work force redundant. Imagine if scientists found much of what they believed was wrong, and imagine if the world's religions were given proof that what they believed was wrong. Imagine new drugs and illicit pleasures given to people with nothing else to do 24 hours a day as sleep could be eliminated. All diseases eliminated, maybe even aging beaten, so the world population suddenly goes up in leaps and bounds and we find we have too many people on Earth.

I like to think that an advanced civilisation would be more moral at least to the extent of leaving us alone till we can cope with such advances. Possibly the first sign of aliens we will get is exchanging messages sent over a period of decades from evidence we have received from the next generation space telescopes which has detected the gases which are a sign of life and industry in the atmosphere on another planet in another solar system. I don't think we will meet any aliens till we actually leave our solar system in star ships.

we are the aliens. we alienate ourselves from the rest of reality.
