I want the bond to be ultra strong, permanent. I would prefer something I can get at a hardware store but if I have to order it that is ok too.

There are many types of conveyor belting available, all with different formulations regarding the material form which the belting is made. Your best bet is to contact the manufacturer of the belting you wish to use and ask about the most suitable methods for joining it.
