Does a river run forwards to the ocean, or back to the sea? smile.gif

It's all in your point of view, of course.

Are you a Naiad or a Nereid? biggrin.gif

Yes.

I like your style! biggrin.gif

Thanks for bringing the Naiad/Nereid dichotomy to my attention, Prince! smile.gif ~ Perhaps those old Greeks had intuitive curiosity for some of the micro-organisms that live in Water, but without 'science' to explain in detail, they used the same kind of polytheistic metaphor of the day to try to understand? Seems plausible.

Thanks! But, be careful mixing your histories....
Better not call me that! I am a toad for good reason!
Spontaneous generation of Princes is just not done in Greek mythology! tongue.gif

I agree. And also it certainly seems to me you've got to consider the river's point of view. For instance, if the river's ego is big enough, from it's perspective it might well think itself standing (or perhaps "floating") still while the whole wide world around comes to meet it.

Slipping from ocean to sky, and back again. You bet! smile.gif

Yeah, that's what they tell YOU! biggrin.gif

Of course, in Reality 'rivers' do not have 'points of view', and toads do not have 'good reason'.

gmilam's answer is far more accurate, as 'points of view' are the Real 'mythology' that we describe our surroundings with all of the 'time'.

All this reminds me of:

Twenty monks and one nun, who was named Eshun, were practicing meditation with a certain Zen master.

Eshun was very pretty even though her head was shaved and her dress plain. Several monks secretly fell in love with her. One of them wrote her a love letter, insisting upon a private meeting.

Eshun did not reply. The following day the master gave a lecture to the group, and when it was over, Eshun arose. Addressing the one who had written to her, she said: "If you really love me so much, come and embrace me now."
