I know this has nothing to do with the real content of the story, but I was struck by the similarity between these micrographs and those of crop circles. Fascinating: science imitating...art?

Actually I was about to comment on this myself. I didn't think of it the first time I looked at the article but looking at the pictures I was thinking of posting something about nano crop circles. So now I see someone already did.

They do bear a striking resemblence. Perhaps the scientists are just taking credit for the work of tiny aliens who are trying to communicate with us via carbon-nanotube circles.
